The story

The story behind ReSteel ApS

ReSteel ApS began with a simple conversation between two people from opposite sides of the steel industry.

Jimmi Myhre Nielsen

Co-owner of four machine shops. Knows the challenge from the steel-consuming industry.

Lars Blomholt

Long-time steel wholesaler, owner of Industristål A/S, with deep roots in the European steel industry. Knows it from the other side of the table.

The conversation was about something both of them had wondered about for many years:

Why is it so hard to buy and sell the good leftover steel that already sits in Danish companies’ warehouses?

When a machine shop needs 800 mm of round bar, it often has to buy a full commercial length. The rest stays in stock. The same happens with plate, tube and other steel and metal products.

Over time the leftover stock grows. It takes up space, ties up capital and becomes harder to manage. In the end, much of it goes to the scrap dealer.

And that is where the paradox appears.

We are often talking about good, fully usable materials — in the right steel grade and with original material certificates. Materials that could easily go through the saw, lathe, mill or another production line at a colleague in the industry.

Why melt a material down if another company can use it exactly as it is?

That question became the beginning of ReSteel.

We therefore decided to create ReSteel.dk as a closed B2B portal for the metalworking industry, where companies can be admitted as members and trade directly with one another.

On ReSteel.dk a company can list its entire leftover stock of steel and metals and set its own prices. That can be anything from a few cut lengths to larger leftover lots of round bar, plate, tube, stainless steel, aluminium and other metals.

The materials then become visible to the other members of ReSteel.

A company that needs exactly the grade or dimension another company has sitting as leftover stock can find the material and buy it directly — quickly.

In practice this creates a new digital market for the huge volumes of valuable material already sitting in Danish companies’ warehouses.

The seller can get far more value than scrap price and free up warehouse space and capital. The buyer gets access to materials that may already be a few kilometres away — often in shorter lengths and quantities that fit the actual need far better.

In other words, ReSteel turns companies’ individual leftover stocks into one large, shared digital materials warehouse.

What began as a conversation about a familiar irritation in the steel industry therefore quickly became a concrete idea.

And the idea became ReSteel ApS.

Since then we have brought H.J. Hansen Recycling Group, Denmark’s leading player in iron and metal recycling, on as a partner.

For us that is a natural partnership. The goal is not to compete with recycling — on the contrary.

We believe in a simple order:

Reuse first. Recycle afterwards.

If a piece of steel or metal can get a new life at another company, we believe it should have that chance before it is melted down. And when the material can no longer be reused, it should of course go on to professional recycling, so the resources can re-enter the cycle.

In that way ReSteel connects the metalworking industry, the steel trade and the recycling sector in one circular initiative.

For us, ReSteel is therefore about more than buying and selling leftover steel.

It is about making better use of the materials we have already produced, reducing waste, unlocking value from companies’ stocks and at the same time lowering the environmental burden.

Good steel is not scrap just because it was left over.

It may simply be missing its next owner.

ReSteel ApS is owned by J.Myhre Holding ApS and LELA Holding ApS.
